Early Signs of Mental Health Issues in Children and Teens
Every child is different, but there are common warning signs that your child may need professional support. You may notice following:
Sudden Mood Changes or Intense Outbursts
Trouble Focusing or Sitting Still
Changes in Sleep, Appetite, or Hygiene
School Problems or Frequent Suspensions
Avoiding Friends or Isolating from Family
Excessive Worry, Fear, or Panic Attacks
Substance Use or Risky Behavior
Involvement with the Juvenile Justice System
If you’ve seen these behaviors in your child or teen, it’s okay to ask for help. Mental health issues are common and treatable, with the right care.

Why Early Treatment Matters
We treat a wide range of mental health and behavioral issues in children and adolescents, using trauma-informed, evidence-based approaches.
1 in 5 children
in the U.S. experiences a mental health condition each year
50%
of all mental health
disorders begin by
age 14, and 75%
by age 24.
Only 1 in 2 kids
with a mental health condition receives treatment.
Even if your child’s symptoms – like worry, mood swings, anger, or trouble focusing—seem small now, early intervention can prevent more serious issues later. Without support, emotional and behavioral challenges can lead to academic struggles, social problems, substance use, and long-term mental health conditions. Getting help early builds emotional resilience, improves behavior at home and in school, and reduces the risk of hospitalization or crisis. For parents, it means fewer emergencies, stronger strategies, and a clearer path toward healing.
Whether your child is in crisis or you’re just beginning to seek support, our team at Alexander Youth Network is ready to help you take the next step.
