For services call (855) 362-8470

For more than 16 years, Nikki Cannon has been a steady force of leadership and compassion at Alexander Youth Network. Her journey is rooted in a deeply personal calling to help children heal, grow, and find their way to brighter futures.

Finding a Calling in the Work

Nikki’s connection to the mission of Alexander Youth Network goes back to her own childhood.

“I first applied to work with Alexander because although I did not experience any trauma, I had some behavioral challenges as a child and wanted to help other children to work through their trauma to heal. As a Recreational Therapist, I also was excited about the activities based model that is used to help children develop the skills that are needed to improve their behaviors.”

That desire to transform her own experience into a source of guidance for others became the foundation for a career of impact.

A Leader Who Leads by Example

When it comes to leadership, Nikki’s approach is clear and authentic.

“As a Leader, I like to lead by example.”

This philosophy has strengthened the teams she leads and built a culture of trust, accountability, and support that reaches children, families, and staff every day.

Accomplishments That Matter Most

Over the years, Nikki has celebrated many milestones, but she measures success in ways that reflect her heart for the mission.

“My proudest accomplishments are improving the census in some of my programs, but the accomplishments that I am most proud of are seeing the improvements in our Leadership team that has in turn improved the quality of programming, and the amount of support that we have been providing to the team.”

Her words remind us that true leadership is not about titles, it is about the lasting impact made on people and communities. What keeps Nikki inspired are the stories of progress and the voices of families who have seen real change.

“Recently, we have received thank you letters from parents as well as positive praise from parents whose children have either successfully discharged from one of our programs, or have made significant progress in the programs and are on track for a successful discharge.”

Programs that Transform Lives

In her role as Regional Executive Director, Nikki oversees programs that touch nearly every corner of a child’s life: Day Treatment, Intensive In-Home and MST, and Outpatient Therapy including School-Based Therapy. Her role is dynamic and ever-changing.

“There is really no ‘typical day’ in my role. I communicate with our leadership team on a daily basis, check referrals, meet with team members, communicate with stakeholders, etc.”

And what makes these programs special?

“The team dynamics in working with one another and our array of services to meet the needs of the clients, the support that we provide to our teams and families, and our ability to ‘think outside of the box’.”

Facing Challenges with Determination

The field of mental health is not without obstacles, but Nikki approaches them with resolve.

“Currently, we are working to maintain compliance in all areas consistently. We are working with PI, meeting with teams on a regular basis, and will be putting together a Retreat to discuss and practice areas that have been out of compliance.”

By addressing challenges head-on, she ensures her teams are stronger, more prepared, and always focused on what matters most: the children.

A Culture of Support

Nikki’s leadership shines brightest in how she uplifts her team.

“By providing support and working with the teams to resolve issues.”

This spirit of encouragement fuels resilience, reminding staff that even in tough seasons, they are never alone. Reflecting on her journey, Nikki sees how both she and Alexander have evolved.

“We have grown and are evolving to keep up with the trends/needs in mental health.”

Her advice for anyone considering this field is simple but wise.

“Make sure that you maintain a good work/life balance.”

The Heart Behind the Title

Outside of her leadership role, Nikki finds joy in spending time with her family. It is what recharges her and keeps her grounded in what matters most. She also carries a simple yet powerful motto.

“Best Mental Health Provider.”

It is a phrase that reflects both her pride in Alexander and her unwavering belief in its mission.

A Lasting Legacy of Impact

Sixteen years at Alexander Youth Network is more than a career milestone. It is a legacy of healing, leadership, and love. Through her dedication, Nikki Cannon continues to be a guiding light for her staff and a champion for the children and families whose lives are forever changed by the work she leads.
