Meagan Speck – Lunch Buddy

Meagan is a lunch buddy who has been volunteering at Alexander Youth Network since July 2018. She is originally from Houston, Texas and completed her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2016. She is currently a leasing professional at Elizabeth Square Apartments.

How do you volunteer at Alexander?

I spend my Wednesday afternoons hanging out with some special kids as a lunch buddy!

Why do you volunteer at Alexander?

I volunteer at AYN because I love the mission and enjoy being there for a kid in need. It’s a rewarding thing to be a part of a kids progress as they grow up.

What has been your best moment as a volunteer?

I think the best moment every week is seeing my lunch buddy’s face light up when they see me! I also love seeing my lunch buddy learn new things – even if it’s just as simple as rules to a new game.

What is your favorite activity to do with the kiddos?

When we’re not swinging on the swings, I enjoy crafts or playing UNO attack.

What would you tell people interested in volunteering?

I would tell them, “DO IT!” It’s seriously one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve had.

What is a fun fact about yourself?

I lived in Guam for most of high school and I went sky diving last year.
