Letters from Lynn: Fall 2021

August 26, 2021  |  Leave a Comment

Welcome to the new and improved eNews.  In this edition I hope you will enjoy some new additions to this newsletter: Mental Wellness tips, what’s happening at AYN and our volunteer opportunities corner.

Just like many of you, everyone involved with Alexander Youth Network this past year has been riding a roller coaster.  We’ve been blessed with many opportunities and faced many unforeseen challenges.  We remain hopeful this year will see us moving in the direction of pre-COVID days with increased in-person services for many of our programs. Our staff and children have been so resilient over the past 18 months, never missing a beat with treatment and continuing to work toward hope and healing.

We are carefully welcoming volunteers back on campus and will look forward to soon offering tours to groups of 4 or less.  While we continue to employ many virtual volunteer programs such as pen pals, Zoom art, bible study, and yoga, we recognize the importance of providing our children the one-on-one personal attention. That’s why we’ve prioritized bringing back our lunch buddies. We are SO thankful to have them back on campus! As we’ve all learned, there is no substitute for face-to-face interaction.

I have been so impressed with the staff at Alexander. The front-line staff at our residential programs never retreated from their direct care for kids maintaining the only contact with the outside world many of these kids have given the restrictions imposed by COVID. Our community-based staff have shown amazing innovation as they provide quality treatment in a remote environment. We are inspired by these heroes among us and we applaud their dedication.

And we are equally inspired by our many supporters who have made generous donations. Shopping for items off our programs’ Amazon Wish Lists items, book drives, clothing drives, and school supplies are just some of the many ways you made a difference in the lives of our kids.  As we look to the start of school in this second year of COVID, I am awed by the smiles and laughter of the children we serve.  Their joy and wonder, despite all the challenges COVID brought to their already challenging lives, make all the hard work during this trying time worth it.

Thank you for helping us bring HOPE and healing to these special children.

With gratitude,
