Therapeutic Foster Care
Treatment Foster Care
Alexander Treatment Parents provide a highly supervised, therapeutic environment in their home for children and teens from throughout the state who are receiving treatment for emotional challenges. All of the Treatment Parents in our program are fully screened, trained, and supervised by our on-staff Treatment Coaches, and are licensed by the state to provide treatment in their home environment. Alexander coaches offer support and direction during weekly supervision with our Treatment Parents, and are available for crisis assistance and consultation around the clock if needed. Alexander provides Treatment Parents with respite services to help take needed breaks from round-the-clock supervision of the children receiving treatment in their home.
Alexander offers this in-home, quality service throughout the Mecklenburg, Piedmont, and Western North Carolina regions from offices in Charlotte and Lenoir.
Multi-Dimensional Treatment Foster Care Program
MTFC is a research-based out-of-home treatment option for severely emotionally disturbed children who require multiple mental health services in order to maintain life in a family and community setting. Alexander wraps children and their families with services to keep them in the home and out of more costly and intensive residential treatment or hospitalization. Services may include individual, family and group therapy, community support services and family training, Day Treatment, psychiatric treatment and medication management, and others. Services are provided by licensed therapeutic foster care families who have additional training in the MTFC model of treatment. Treatment parents are limited to treating one MTFC child at a time in their home.
Rapid Response Crisis Homes
Alexander's Rapid Response Crisis Homes Program provides immediate and temporary out-of-home placement for a child with mental health disorders to prevent hospitalization or removal from an existing placement. Therapeutic families are specially trained to help stabilize and monitor a child's behavior while the existing family works with professionals and other support systems in the community to reassess the child's needs and to determine the most appropriate next steps. Treatment is limited to two weeks.
Specialized Foster Care
Alexander offers specialized foster care services to children throughout North Carolina who are able to live in a traditional family setting. The program is flexible and can be individualized according to the child's needs, enabling Alexander to serve both children needing longer-term specialized foster care and those in transition to other settings. All children served in the Specialized Foster Care service are in the legal custody of their local Department of Social Services.
