Program Overview

Alexander Youth Network offers a comprehensive array of children's behavioral healthcare services.

Programs and services can be divided into three categories:

Diagnostic and Outpatient Services
Diagnostic and outpatient services can be accessed from Alexander locations in Mecklenburg and Caldwell counties. Diagnostic assessment is available to those new to the mental health system and who need a determination for treatment, and for those whose assessment has been ordered by the courts. Assessments are conducted through Alexander's Outpatient Therapy Services which can also provide psychological testing, therapy and other services. All Outpatient services are conducted in the office. Alexander's Outpatient staff includes board-certified psychiatrists, psychologists, and licensed clinial therapists.

Community Programs
Community programs are those services delivered in the home and community. They include such services as Community Support, Multi-systemic Therapy, Day Treatment and Therapeutic and Specialized Foster Care. Programs focus on building family and community supports to help a family maintain an emotionally disturbed child in the least restrictive environment possible, and on training caregivers to manage behaviors, handle medications and other sometimes difficult tasks. The duration, frequency and intensity of services is determined by diagnostic assessment and ongoing consultation between the treatment team which includes Alexander staff, other professionals, school staff, family members and others involved in treatment. Alexander offers Day Treatment programs in Mecklenburg and Gaston counties for children who are unable to attend public school, but can return to their home each evening.

Residential Programs
Alexander provides a 30-bed Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facility (PRTF) at its main Thermal Road campus in Charlotte. The program serves severely disturbed children needing 24-hour supervision by a nursing staff. Typical treatment duration is four to six months.

Alexander provides a continuum of services to children and families that covers most treatment intensity levels from one step down from inpatient hospitalization to periodic outpatient therapy and/or medication management.
