Alexander Youth Network serves approximately 1,400 children a year (figures do not include The Relatives homeless, runaway and youth crisis shelter) in more than a dozen programs.

Alexander is a 501-c-3 North Carolina nonprofit corporation and receives funding from fees for services as well as from contributions from individuals, corporations, foundations and government agencies.

Alexander serves North Carolina children ages 5-18.

Alexander provides a comprehensive array of children's behavioral healthcare services in three basic categories: outpatient, residential, and community-based services.

Children ages 5 to 18 are referred to Alexander from North Carolina’s Area Mental Health programs, hospitals, physicians, parents, schools, county departments of social services and from the state’s juvenile justice system.

The U.S. Surgeon General estimates that 1 in 5 children suffers from a mental health disturbance. In North Carolina, 10% of the children are estimated to have a severe emotional disturbance.

Alexander’s goal is to provide children and their families a full array of services to smooth the transition from one service to another.

Alexander was founded in 1888 in Charlotte as a women and children's rescue mission. In 1945, the agency began transitioning to serve children with emotional and behavioral problems.
